2014 is the first year of the Area of Study: Discovery. This means there are no past HSC papers that address Discovery. To give you sense of the type of questions asked in the creative section of the exam, below are a sample of past questions for the Area of Study: Belonging.

2013
Compose a piece of imaginative writing that explores a decision to embrace or reject a connection with others.


2011
Compose a creative piece that captures the significance of remembered places to the experience of belonging.


2010
Select ONE of the quotations as the opening for a piece of imaginative writing that explores the challenges of belonging and not belonging.


"I am outside the door"
OR
"We want to believe this is how it was..."
OR
"I felt expelled and exiled..."

Extension Activity

Start to write a creative piece using ONE of the above questions as stimulus. You can hand your work into your teachers or submit it online in the 'extension' folder found on the discussion page. It does not have to be complete, it could just be an opening paragraph.
